Project Overview

This was a quick-turnaround project focused on redesigning the YoungLA mobile app, an ecommerce platform for streetwear and athletic apparel. The goal was to improve the app’s usability, visual clarity, and overall user experience—particularly for users navigating product discovery and checkout flows.

Key Tasks

As part of the assignment, I identified and improved the core user tasks necessary for a successful shopping experience:

  • Account Creation & Login

  • Browse Products

  • View Product Details

  • Manage Account

  • Add to Cart

  • Add to Favorites

  • Checkout

  • Track Orders

These tasks guided the structure of my redesign and helped prioritize UI elements during prototyping.

User Journey

I mapped out the typical e-commerce journey, from discovering the app to completing a purchase:

  1. Onboarding & Login – Ensure users can create or access their accounts easily

  2. Browsing & Searching – Improve filtering, navigation, and category hierarchy

  3. Product Detail View – Focus on large imagery, clear sizing info, and simplified actions

  4. Cart & Checkout – Streamline steps, eliminate friction, and reduce cognitive load

  5. Order Confirmation & Tracking – Provide reassurance and easy access to delivery updates

The redesign prioritized intuitive flows and a minimalist visual system that aligns with the YoungLA brand identity.

Visual Redesign

I redesigned the interface with a modern, bold aesthetic that reflects the brand’s streetwear vibe. Key improvements included:

  • Cleaner layouts with better use of white space

  • Simplified bottom navigation for quicker access to key areas

  • Updated typography and iconography for visual consistency

  • Improved hierarchy and visibility of CTAs like “Add to Cart” and “Checkout”

Prototype Highlights

In Figma, I created a clickable prototype that included:

  • Onboarding/Login screen

  • Home screen with curated product collections

  • Product detail page with bold imagery and reviews

  • Cart view with editable quantities and price breakdown

  • Smooth checkout screen with confirmation feedback

Reflection

Although this was a small project, it gave me a valuable opportunity to practice task prioritization, UI refinement, and rapid design decision-making. I enjoyed reimagining a real-world brand and improving on common ecommerce pain points in a compressed timeframe.
